Galaxies on Instagram: "Color TV camera footage (remote-controlled from Houston) of the Apollo 17 LM ascent stage ignition and liftoff on December 14th, 1972. The “rainbow sparkles” at ignition are from bits of Kapton foil and insulation that were blown outwards by the hold bolts and wire cutters exploding and engine ignition; they moved much too fast for the spinning RGB color wheel on the camera to register them in all filters.
